How To Have A Slim Mm Forum Avatar Like Me

104 posts in this topic

Hello, too many people ask me this question so its easier to put this in a topic.

To have a avatar like mine you need to create your own custom picture that has the following requirements:

  • Height: 300px (pixels)
  • width 128px (pixels)
  • Maximum filesize: 50KB

In this tutorial I'll be using GIMP the image editing software because its easy to use. You can use rusty nails, paint or photoshop to do the same task I don't care but I'll be using GIMP.

    You can download gimp here:

http://www.gimp.org/downloads/ click on "Download GIMP x.x.x – Installer for Windows XP SP3 or later"

    1. Open gimp and create a new file with dimensions 128x300, under advanced options click "fill with transparency"

    2. Download a image you would like to make into your new avatar, i'll be using this one as a example: http://tldr.me/3d9tg0.jpg

    3. drag and drop your image into the empty canvas

    4. This creates a new layer, you can find the layer in the layer tab in your toolbox (see picture)

    5. select the layer with the picture you want and click on the resize tool (hi lighted in the pîcture below)

    6. hqzi0y.png

    7. click the eye on your picture of your layer to hide it (so it won't get in your way while resizing)

    8. drag your image to the centre by clicking on the centre of the pasted image and dragging the mouse.

    9. Resize it as desired by grabbing a corner AND pressing the LEFT CTRL key at the same time (this keeps the aspect ratio correct)

    10. Move the image again to perfectly align it with your frame (you can toggle the eye in your layer frame if you want to take a closer lookie)

    11. Edit the picture as desired (you are on your own here)

    12. time to export your image to a good format, click FILE on the top of the program and click "export ..."

    13. You can now save the file as FILENAME.jpg or FILENAME.png,

    14. Generally speaking you should save your file as .jpg to save space, some images have smaller size as .png (like cartoons without shading, or images with only 10 colours or large empty spaces).

    15. check if your image is below 50KB (right click on the file in windows and select 'properties' it should list the filesize in KB

    16. if the image is too big export it again but lower the quality or try a different format.

    17. upload it to your profile: http://www.mm-rs.org...usercp&tab=core

    18. Make sure after you upload to correct the crop by clicking "Adjust crop"

    19. 1im7ij5.png

    20. Done.

    21. if your profile picture stays stuck try pressing CTRL+F5
    22. examples:

Now i have to stop explaining this every couple days.

Also if you can't do it yourself ask other people to do it for you in this thread, some might help, but don't count on it.

you can also search for images of that resolution by clicking this link:

anyway tl;dr its no secret. just have an image that meets the criteria that's been the same since we swapped boards. It's just most images you find online will be shaped like a sumo wrestler instead of a basketball player
